Teaching Strategy

Teaching strateGy Model

My transformation from 1G to future 5G teaching and learning networks! Inspired by levels of consciousness published by Dr David R. Hawkins

Shift from eGo consciousness to God consciousness

  • 1G: Be reactive to the teaching situation. Easily stress in teaching and learning.
  • 2G: The conventional model influences teaching and learning styles.
  • 3G: Teaching and learning with awareness to make a better choice. Learn many lessons.
  • 4G: Changing the external teaching methods through internal learning (good habits). Always be grateful!
  • Future 5G: Extraordinary/Impactful teaching and learning with a peaceful and conscious mindset.

Change is permanent, progress is a choice!

Teaching Methodology:

At the beginning of each teaching session, I am aware that I should not use only a single approach in the teaching method.
I will use various methods to make my teaching more effective. Moreover, this will motivate my learner or make students pay more attention.

Be Conscious of the 5 Levels of Transformation in Teaching and Learning

  • Teaching Identity
  • Teaching Belief System
  • Teaching Competency / Capability
  • Teaching Behavior / Habits
  • Teaching Circle

Who has no priority, has no life. When you accelerate yourself, you accelerate your life!

Teaching Identity

Through Active Learning via synchronous/asynchronous sessions. As a teacher, I should also be an active learner. Students learn from me as their example to teach back to others. Learning from each other. #1 Easy productivity tips to improve awareness in teaching and learning. To keep yourself busy with responsibilities.

Teaching Belief System

Effective Lecturing for Effective Learning. Understands and apply the principle of great communication.

In any classroom with more than 30 students, I must first ensure my emotion is in the full energy so that the student can feel that, as a lecturer, I am well prepared for the teaching and learning experience with this group of students. I start my teaching by directing style within 5-15 minutes of activities. As a lecturer, this conventional style is still valid to promote learning through listening and following instructions, as stated in the lecture notes.

I prefer the discussion strategy in FYP and MSD or any group activities, where this style promotes learning through interaction, and Effective Communication is really important in this stage.

Once I get my student trust, then I apply the delegating style. This teaching style promotes learning through empowerment and boosts my students’ confidence.

  • Verbal – Words, Content – 7%
  • Vocal – Tone, Pitch, Intonation – 38%
  • Visual – Body Language, Facial Expression, Gestures – 55%

Hence, great communication is derived 55% from the person’s Soul (Emotion), 38% from the Heart (the feeling mind) and 7% from the thinking Mind only. So, do not start any learning and teaching activities if your emotion is at a low level – even if you have great teaching & learning content

Words (comes from mind) <<< Intonation (comes from heart) << Emotions (comes from soul).

Audit daily self-emotion before starting any teaching and learning experience.

Teaching Competency/Capability

Back then, during my earlier teaching, I blindly adopted the idea of teaching and learning styles. I struggle to find the right learning style for each of my students. Once I realized my mistake, I started rethinking teaching and learning styles by exploring many ways to approach learning in my classroom. Here are a few tactics that I started using with my students:

  • Clarify with my students that we do not have only one learning style. Some of my students may have learning preferences to process information in a certain way. However, we all learn best when we combine the head (mind), heart and hands (soul).
  • Emphasize in class that there are no limits to our learning preferences. Our teaching and learning habits often change over time, depending on the situation. One day, we want to learn mathematical formulae by watching a tutorial video. The next day, we want to read an application of mathematics in engineering via blog post instead. This variety is good!
  • Remind my students that they have a great toolbox of ways to learn. So whenever I teach a new topic in my classroom, I encourage them to ask themselves, “Which platform or social media works best for me on this topic?” The more students realize the options available to them, the more prepared they’ll be to teach/learn by themselves anything they need at any time/place.
  • Give students opportunities to engage in many sensory modalities. In this day and age, we have countless ways to learn. So I started letting my students choose their own engineering application related to mathematics topic and learn about it in different ways. Help them reflect on what they notice about the assignment etc.!

Teaching Habits

Teaching & Learning Reflections. Better Feedback for better consciousness in teaching & learning.

  • Peer Tutoring and Assessment.
  • Visual Aids.
  • Brainstorming.

Teaching Circle

Directing (low) < Discussing < Delegating (High)

Be conscious of type within the Controlled circle: Identify and understand the network characters. Circle of Concern / Circle of Influence? With whole various class, group and individual teaching & learning activities to accommodate different person’s emotional abilities, skills, learning rates, and styles allow, every student to participate and achieve some degree of success.

Using Sway in teaching and learning allows me, as a lecturer and my students, to visually organize the information that we want to share. Each Sway has a link that can be shared easily on the web, through email, or social media.
