From Hannover to Melaka: Exploring the culture and knowledge
In an exciting collaboration between the Faculty of Electronic and Computer Engineering (FTKEK) at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and Hochschule Hannover – University of Applied Sciences and Arts, a unique Inbound Mobility Program has been launched. The program aims to foster cultural exchange and broaden the horizons of students from both institutions.
Under the program in semester session 1-2023/2024, four students from Hochschule Hannover have embarked on a journey to UTeM, immersing themselves in the vibrant Malaysian culture and experiencing the academic offerings at FTKEK. This endeavor not only introduces international students to UTeM’s learning environment but also encourages local and international students to interact and learn from each other.
The four participating students, Jan Goehrmann, Ali Haidar, Jan Springhetti, and Luca Wanner, have eagerly embraced the opportunity to study at UTeM. They are set to join their UTeM counterparts in various courses offered by FTKEK, totaling a minimum of 12 credit hours. To ensure a smooth academic journey, each student has been assigned an academic advisor (PA) who provides guidance and support throughout their stay at UTeM.
The Inbound Mobility Program focuses on academic pursuits and promotes a well-rounded experience. The students will have the chance to explore the rich Malaysian culture through a dedicated course on Malaysian Culture. This will enable them to gain a deeper understanding of the local customs, traditions, and way of life.
The program implementation occurs physically, with the students attending classes at FTKEK, UTeM. This allows them to fully immerse themselves in the academic and social environment, creating lasting connections with their fellow students and faculty members.
Financially, the program operates reciprocally between FTKEK and Hochschule Hannover, with no revenue generation involved. The allocated funds cover transportation and technical support, ensuring a seamless experience for the students.
As the program unfolds, the students will have the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills through various projects and assignments. Following approval from the UTeM Senate, the relevant Hochschule Hannover officials will receive the students’ academic achievements.
The collaboration between FTKEK and Hochschule Hannover highlights the importance of international mobility programs in today’s globalized world. By facilitating cross-cultural exchanges and expanding students’ perspectives, such initiatives contribute to the development of well-rounded individuals prepared to thrive in diverse and interconnected environments.
The Inbound Mobility Program is off to a promising start as these four students embark on a transformative journey at UTeM. Their experiences and interactions will undoubtedly shape their academic and personal growth, fostering lifelong friendships and cultural appreciation.
This collaborative effort between FTKEK and Hochschule Hannover sets a positive example for international educational partnerships, paving the way for future endeavors that will continue to enrich the educational landscape for students around the world.
